Our Eddy men boots were developed on a last which we created ourselves. The last is the basis in the manufacturing of a shoe. It’s like the chassis for a motorcycle; the development work starts with it. We first sketch out the contours of the last (using an existing shoe model or an existing last whose lines we like), then the last maker will sculpt it out of a wooden piece, making the corresponding adaptations, sand it to perfect it and make it look like our original idea.
Why this long shape, particularly distinguished and class? As a reminder of dress codes with character, elegance and contemporaneity. The first model on this last had to be called Eddy.
Eddie: what is it?
The Eddy model is an ankle boot, but not just any ankle boot. Among men's leather ankle boots, we often find the same heights: in general, the upper rises above the ankle, or even until the beginning of the calf. The Eddys, however, are low, very low. Why? Because the height just under the ankle not only gives them a clean and unique vibe, but also a rock-inspired and super elegant look.
How is the Eddy model made?
The particularity of the Eddy model lies not only in its unique and stylish structure, but also in its “one cut”. Indeed, this pair of boots is made from a single piece of skin and has only one seam, behind the heel which is a real technical feat. And since nothing is beautiful enough at Oodoo, we opted for a “goodyear stitching” as the assembly technique for these boots. Spoiler: We never merely glue our soles!
The Goodyear stitching consists of assembling the welt to the upper and the insole with a first stitch, then using a second stitch to connect the welt to the sole creating its notorious overhang all around the shoe and characteristic of the Goodyear welt. This technique gives the shoes total waterproofing and resistance to any test, with the added benefit of the possibility of resoling them endlessly.
But that's not all! Our leather sole is also stitched (not glued!) and we add a tire pad to it. Durable, adherent, and resistant to oils, hydrocarbons and abrasion, it would be difficult to find anything better in terms of robustness. Not to mention that this extra sole is made with upcycled tires. In short: sturdy boots with an original and unique style where the environment aspect is also taken into account.
The materials used to make Eddy boots
Our purpose at Oodoo is to make beautiful and well-made shoes. All our models are made from vegetable-tanned leather, except for the suede leather versions. That is to say with skins which have not undergone chemical treatment like 80% of what’s on the market. Instead of being treated with highly polluting products for the environment and noxious for workers and consumers, these leathers are bathed in tanks filled with water and vegetable tannins (bark, leaves, roots, etc. ). The tanning time is therefore much longer (sometimes up to 12 months while industrial tanning can be done in just one day!) and the price is accordingly more expensive. We assume it as the price to pay to create responsible and sustainable products. Vegetable-tanned leather has no equal, especially when it comes from the best Italian tanneries: it allows the natural unique shades of the leather to stand out and provide with firm and resistant materials...for a lifetime warranty boots!
For the suede leather version (camel color), our choice also fell on Italy, also known for its tanneries specializing in this type of skin. Suede leather is a light, velvety, breathable, but also robust material. Besides, ours is waterproof ! In other words, liquid resistant. So absolutely no product is necessary for its maintenance apart from the use of a piece of crepe (supplied with the pair) for stubborn stains. There is a misconception that suede leather is more fragile than “normal” leather, but this is false. Despite its luxurious appearance, it is much stronger than you think.
In addition to the quality of our materials and our manufacturing for utmost comfort, an insole with memory foam will make you feel good in your shoes. We opted for natural calfskin for the lining providing a perfect fit for the foot. Breathable, durable, super comfortable, it’s the very best of linings.
Where are Eddy boots made?
Eddy boots are made in Spain, in the Alicante region, a stronghold of the shoe industry where a few workshops, experts in Goodyear welts, persist and last. Our boots are handmade in a dedicated family-owned workshop, specialized in the manufacture of “beautiful shoes”.
